Especially the possibility to use Chords and Scales with these free applications in macOS as well as on the iPad and the iPhone makes them my first choice.

Not every application offers the typographic features to make most of the fonts Chords and Scales. Therefore my recommendation and the requirements for the fonts Chords and Scales is Pages and Keynote.
It should not go unmentioned that quite a few other applications such as Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, Pixelmator, Acorn, Scrivener, Indesign and Illustrator are working very well with Chords and Scales.
Also take a shot at Preview, Guitar Pro, Finale, Dorico and PDF Expert to add diagrams to sheet music or lyrics sheets.

On the iPad I prefer to work with Pages, Keynote and Numbers.
